How to Stand Out in the OR: What Every Student Should Know Before Their First Rotation

Students entering the OR for the first time are intimidated. That’s a given. No matter if you are a Med Student, PA Student and even first year Surgical Residents, the learning curve is real. OR teams everywhere waffle between dread, pity, respect and exasperation when we see students enter the OR. Unprepared students set the tone for how their OR experience will unfold, and not in a good way. On the rare occasion that we see a well-prepared student enter, we are OVERJOYED! And, believe me, we can see it right away. They walk in with their correct gown and glove size, introducing themselves;  they address the team in the room appropriately, minding the sterile field; and, what’s this?! They ACTUALLY know the proper scrubbing, gowning and gloving procedure! And this is just for starters. Already, this student is way ahead of the curve and on their way to excelling in their rotation. This can be YOU! There are likely many resources available for instruction, but none can compare to a live, in person workshop course designed to fully equip any type of student preparing for a rotation. An investment you won’t regret, and we, as your OR team, will be able to see the difference. If I were you, I’d strongly consider it. Discover what veteran OR pros can teach you about being the best student EVER.
